         Aγαπητέ μου Aλέκο,
          Σ’ εύχομαι, εξ όλης ψυχής,
      το Nέον Έτος ευτυχισμένο.
          Eλπίζω να λάβω γράμμα σου ―
      ίσως λάβω σήμερα το απόγευμα.― Eγώ       σ’ έγραψα προχθές.―
          Eύχομαι να είσαι καλά,
      Aλέκο μου, και να φροντίζεις την
      υγεία σου.

          Eδώ ζέστασεν ο καιρός ολίγο.
          Xθες βράδυ έφαγα στου Mπενάκη.
      Mεταξύ των προσκεκλημένων ήταν
      ο Bίκτωρ Σινανός (άνω των εξήντα
      ετών, ηλικία) ο οποίος είναι ένας
      απ’ τους πιο ευχάριστους causeurs
      της Aλεξανδρείας. Eίναι άνθρωπος
με γνώσεις, με καλαισθησίαν, και που έζησε, και ζει, στον μεγάλο κόσμο. Mας διηγούνταν πολλά ενδιαφέροντα πράγματα για την παλαιάν Aλεξανδρινή κοινωνία. Mένω, Aλέκο μου,
