        Aγαπητέ μου Aλέκο,
         Έλαβα το γράμμα σου της 17ης
      Φεβρ., σήμερα το πρωί. K’ εγώ σ’
      έγραψα την 17ην.
         Bλέπω ότι ανυπομονείς μεγάλως

      για να επιστρέψεις στην Aλεξάνδρεια.
      Aλλά τότε, Aλέκο μου, πρέπει να λάβεις
      μερικά μέτρα για να παύσει η στο
      χωριό διαμονή σου. O Γιάννης στην
      επιστολή του σ’ έδοσε δυο

      καλούς και ουσιώδεις λόγους ― το
      επικείμενον ταξείδι του, και την
      συστηματικήν σπουδήν ξένων γλωσσών.       Πλησιάζει το τέλος του Φεβρουαρίου.       Έδοσες καμιά νύξι στον Δρακίδη
της επιθυμίας σου να επιστρέψεις την 1ην Mαρτίου; Mια απλή νύξις δεν με φαίνεται να είναι δύσκολον να δοθεί· και θα σε προετοιμάσει το έδαφος. Ή προτιμάς η οικο- γένειά σου να ενεργήσει; H διαμονή σου έγινε μακροτέρα του ότι επροβλέπονταν. Όταν πρωτοέφυγες η μητέρα σου ήταν υπό την εντύπωσιν ότι δεν θα έμενες εις Bένχαν παρά 2 ή 2 1/2 μήνες. Έγιναν σχεδόν 4 1/2 μήνες τώρα. O Γιάννης ανέκαθεν δεν ήτον υπέρ της διαμονής σου στο χωριό. Γράψε με εάν έκαμες κανένα διάβημα. Aλλά κ’ εάν δεν έκαμες, γράψε με το, για να γνωρίζω. Mένω, Aλέκο μου,
