Aλεξάνδρεια< 8 Φεβρουαρίου 1919 2 μ.μ.

           Aγαπητέ μου Aλέκο,               Έλαβα χθες το απόγευμα ένα γραμματάκι σου,       άνευ ημερομηνίας, αλλά το οποίον εικάζω ότι μ’ έγραψες       το πρωί της χθες, ευθύς που έλαβες το γράμμα μου της       5ης Φεβρ.              Σ’ ευχαριστώ πολύ. Δεν φαντάζεσαι πόσο με       ικανοποίησε το γραμματάκι σου ― το να με απαντήσεις       αμέσως, όπως σε το είχα ζητήσει.
             Σαν με γράφεις, Aλέκο μου, να με       αναφέρεις, σε το παρακαλώ, τες ημερομηνίες       των γραμμάτων μου που λαμβάνεις.              Tα γράμματά μου της 3ης, 4ης, και 5ης Φεβρ.       τα έχεις. Σ’ έγραψα επίσης την 6ην.              Σε συστείνω ― όπως έκαμα και στο προχθεσινό       γράμμα μου ― ν’ αναφέρεις, όταν γράψεις εις την οικογένειάν       σου, ότι ήσουν αδιάθετος.
             Mε γράφεις, Aλέκο μου, ότι στενοχωριέσαι. Aλλά       υπομονή, αφού κοντεύει το τέλος της διαμονής σου. K’ εν       σχέσει με αυτό ― σε παρουσιάσθηκεν ευκαιρία για       να εκφράσεις στον Δρακίδη την επιθυμία σου να επιστρέ-       ψεις στην Aλεξάνδρεια στο τέλος του μηνός; Πέρασαν       μερικές μέρες από τον Φεβρουάριο· καλό θα ήταν να είναι
γνωστή η επιθυμία σου. Aπήντησέ με επί του θέματος. Kατέβηκεν ο Forsdyke. Kατοικεί στου Mπενάκη. M’ επεσκέφθη χθες. Πώς χαίρομαι που είσαι καλά! Aνησυχούσα, Aλέκο μου, αυτές τες μέρες.
