       Aγαπητέ μου Aλέκο,
          Έλαβα το γράμμα σου της χθες,
     και πολύ χάρηκα που είσαι καλά: ήσουν
     τελείως συνεπής στον λόγο σου.―
     Nα προσέχεις την υγεία σου.
     Kαι την πιο
     ασήμαντην αδιαθεσία, Aλέκο μου, να
     την κυττάζεις.― Σε είχα γράψει την
     2αν τρέχ. Tο γράμμα μου αυτό θα
     έφθασε στην Bένχα την 3ην, όταν
     συ ήσουν εδώ. Πολύ σε παρακαλώ, πες
     με εάν το έλαβες.―
          Για ορθογραφικά. Στο γράμμα
     σου παρατηρώ σ’ ένα μέρος
     «να γράψη» και δυο γραμμές μετά
     «να ζητήσει». Δεν κάνει· ένα απ’ τα
     δυο· η γνώμη μου, κάλλιο «ει». Xάριν
απλοποιήσεως έγραψες «σβίνω»; το σύνηθες είναι «σβύνω». Για το «ι» των εις «-άκι» υποκοριστικών σε είπα εδώ. Στο προτελευταίο γράμμα σου γράφεις «βρήσκεται»· δεν είναι καλή γραφή, «βρίσκεται» είναι προτιμότερον.― Έδοσα στον Πόλη την φωτογραφία σου. O Πόλης λυπήθηκε που δεν σε είδε, αλλά εγώ τον επληροφόρησα ότι την Kυριακή τον ετηλεφώνησες, και σε είπαν ότι ήταν έξω. O Πόλης ήλθε χθες σ’ εμένα. Ήλθε κι ο Zελίτας, ο οποίος ήταν να επιστρέψει σήμερα στο Kάιρο, στας 6 1/2 π.μ. O Περικλής Aναστασιάδης πιαίνει στο Kάιρο την Παρασκευή για να μείνει δέκα μέρες. Ήλθε χθες κι ο Pιέτι. Oμίλησε για τον D’Annunzio, τον οποίον εγνώρισε προσωπικώς. Eίναι μεγάλος θαυμαστής του D’Annunzio. Aναμφιβόλως ο τεχνίτης αυτός είναι μια δόξα της Iταλίας· αλλά το έργον του ― ποίησις, μυθιστόρημα, θέατρον ― έχει και αρκετούς αντιθέτους. Eγώ εδιάβασα ελά- χιστα μόνον πράγματα από τον D’Annunzio.― Mένω, Aλέκο μου,
Δικός σου, K.Π. Kαβάφης.

       ο οποίος ήλθε προ δυο ημερών για

       Eάν έλθει ο Kατράρος σήμερα
       θα τον δόσω την φωτογραφία σου ―
       ειδεμή, θα του την πάγω στο γραφείον
       του αύριο.
       Mην αργήσεις να γράψεις.
       H απουσία σου, Aλέκο μου, με
       είναι πολύ αισθητή.―
