Letter by John Cavafy to C. P. Cavafy
[Alexandria] 4 August 1885
My dear Constantine,
I enclose a cheque on the Credit Lyonnais for £15. Peter has given me £5 only, to send you this month; I have asked him to write and explain to you the reason why. Aristides cannot yet add anything to the monthly remittance, and I regret I am unable to send you more than £10. Altogether this is a note of regrets and inabilities: I daresay you will put us down as so many humbugs. But the Indemnities will now soon be paidand all these annoyances be conveniently relegated to the Past.
Mr. Moss is still here and uncertain as to his impending departure.
Remember me affectionately to mother and all, and believe me
Yours
John.
