CONTENT AND STRUCTURE AREA

SCOPE AND CONTENT:
Provides a summary of the scope (such as, time periods, geography) and content of the unit of description.

The sub-fonds is divided into 3 series. Series Ι includes Cavafy’s correspondence and is further divided into three sub-series with the following contents: Sub-series 1, Personal correspondence. Sub-series 2, Family correspondence. Sub-series 3, General correspondence. The personal and family correspondence are divided into incoming and outgoing. Series ΙΙ contains various items and comprises two files. The first contains diary-type texts written by the poet and the second contains various personal documents (of legal, financial, personal and family-related content as well as ephemera, printed media and works by third parties). Series ΙΙΙ comprises one file and contains the collection of photographs, divided into personal, family and photographs of third parties.

SYSTEM OF ARRANGEMENT:
Provides information on the processing, the internal structure, the order and the system of classification of the fonds.

The items of the sub-fonds have been arranged thematically into series, sub-series and files, and have been placed in chronological order inside the sub-files.

Identifies the language(s) and script(s) employed in the unit of description.

The language of the documents is primarily Greek and English and secondarily French; very few items (one letter and a small number of photographs) with writing in Italian.
