CONTENT AND STRUCTURE AREA
Cavafy’s poetry collection containing 57 poems of the 1912-1920 period. A piece of paperboard folded in half is used as front and back covers. On the cover, the printed title: “C. P. Cavafy Poems. Alexandria 1912-1920”. The original date “1919” has been corrected by Cavafy to “1920”, in ink.
On the inside, printed title page repeating the details on the cover. The end date was originally printed “19” and handwritten “16”; it was corrected by hand to “1920”. Two blank sheets follow. On the recto of the first sheet, the handwritten note: “Missing: As Much As You Can 7[.] Imenus 56”. The printed broadsheets containing the poems follow, numbered at top right of the recto (1 to 59 – sheets 7 and 56 are missing). The numbering is mostly printed, in a few instances handwritten, and in some it has been corrected by hand. The verso of all broadsheets is blank. The poems are followed by a blank sheet and printed table of contents in chronological order, in two columns. The contents page is part of the sheet also containing the title page. The poem titles are preceded by a mark in pencil. The 1919 titles are crossed out, while three of them are handwritten. Two 1919 poem titles and a 1920 poem title are handwritten on the verso of the contents page and have been crossed out. The broadsheets were printed at the Kasimatis & Ionas printing house (Alexandria) during the 1917-1920 period (five of them also mention the month of printing: two in July 1919, and one each in September 1919, December 1919 and March 1920).
