Eleni Angeliki Loukia Cavafy was the poet’s niece, daughter of his brother Alexandros and of Thelxiopi Theodorou. She was born in 1902 in Alexandria (Egypt), where she finished school. She lost her parents at a very young age (her father when she was three and her mother when she was nine) and was raised by her mother’s family. She was married to Massimo Coletti, with whom she had one son, Alexandros. The family lived mostly in Italy and, at times, in Egypt. She died in Rome in 1970.
