Paul Cavafy (1860-1920) was a British citizen. He worked for the Municipality of Alexandria (Egypt) and participated actively in the social life of the city. Between 1904 and 1908, he lived with his brother Constantine and before that they both lived with their brother John. Following his retirement, Paul settled at Hyères (near Cannes) in France, where he spent the last decade of his life without ever returning to Egypt.
